Get in the NVMe SSD game (if you are not already) with Intel 750 among others
If you are or have talked the Non Volatile Memory (NVM) and NVM Express (NVMe) flash SSD talk, however have not yet done the walk, there are some good opportunities to do so. One example how to start walking the talk is get something like the Intel 750 400GB NVMe PCIe Add in Card (AiC) which you should be able to find on different venues including Amazon for $400 USD or less (recently saw the 400GB version for about $309 USD delivered). Of course the question might then be what to do with a NVMe device when you get it which besides running your applications on it, you can find some benchmark and workload generator tools, scripts and examples here.
Yellow Bricks: VSAN everywhere with Computacenter
This week I had the pleasure to have a chat with Marc Huppert (VCDX181). Marc works for Computacenter in Germany as a Senior Consultant and Category Leader VMware Solutions. He primarily focuses on datacenter technology. I noticed a tweet from Marc that he was working on a project where they will be implementing a 60 site ROBO deployment. We had a conversation of about an hour and below is the story around this project, and some of the other projects Marc has worked on.
The last topic that I would like to explore before concluding my VSAN API blog series are some of the advanced VSAN disk statistics that are available for either troubleshooting or informational purposes. One such statistic that would be handy to know about is the number of VSAN Components per ESXi host, which I have already demonstrated in my recent VSAN configuration maximum query script and VSAN PowerCLI vCheck Plugins. These disk statistics are made available through the VSAN InternalSystem manager and using the QueryPhysicalVsanDisks() vSphere API method, we can either retrieve all or a specific set of properties for each ESXi host. I have created a sample vSphere SDK for Perl script called vsanDiskStatsQueries.pl that will…Read More
